First Glimpse Of Your Child With Ultrasound

The ultrasound imaging or ultrasonography uses sound waves to form images of the child in the uterus which in turn helps to insure good health and proper development of the baby.  Ultrasound imaging is done between 18 to 20 weeks but one is done before to confirm the pregnancy. There are five different types of ultrasound available. They are
  • Transabdominal ultrasound
  • Transvaginal ultrasound
  • Doppler ultrasound
  • 3-D ultrasound
  • 4-D ultrasound
The most commonly used one is the Transabdominal ultrasound.  The heartbeat of the baby can be heard using the Doppler ultrasound and it is also used for checking the blood flow. The 3-D ultrasound takes thousand of images of the baby at once and it almost looks like a photograph.  4-D ultrasound is similar to 3-D ultrasound but shows the movement of the baby in a video.

The 14th week pregnancy ultrasound gives you the first peek of your child.  The 14th week occurs in the second trimester of the pregnancy and the chance of miscarriage is very low at this stage and at the 14th week the child is expected to have brain, facial and bone development. The baby will be ready to move the facial muscles at this stage to make grins, grimaces, frowns and even a squint. The child also shows some hair growth.Pregnancy ultrasound will show you the child’s hands and legs moving while sucking his thumb. You can also see hardening and growing of bones. In 14 weeks it is too early to determine the sex of the baby through ultrasound. So it is recommended to wait a few more weeks to judge the gender of the baby.Enjoy your pregnancy each stage and development without getting tensd about sex of the child.
